Hwy 221 Lane Closing

Savannah, Georgia - The inspection and repairs to the Thurmond Dam flood control spillway gates, perviously announced by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Thurmond Project Office, are scheduled to begin on February 10 and may take up to two years to complete.  Safety and maintenance managers with the Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, report one lane of Highway 221 at Thurmond Dam will remain closed for the duration of the repairs.

"This work on the spillway gates is vital and we're very pleased to have received the stimulus funding to help ensure the serviceability of Thurmond Dam," said Scott Hyatt, Thurmond Operations Project Manager.
